Unhealthy Lunch… Unhealthy Child
Let’s face it, children in American are unhealthy… obesity, asthma, depression, behavioral issues and food/environmental allergies are at an all time high. Without question, the quality of our food supply is a large contributing factor.
Whether their parents give them lunch money or whether they participate in the National Lunch Program, most of American public school students are eating lunches filled, with highly processed, sodium laden, transfat filled, high fructose corn syrup yumminess. But wait, there is more, if you and your child are health conscious enough to be vegan or vegetarian- it’s a too bad so sad situation for you. (The American Medical Association actually suggested that more of these options be available, but as of yet- no dice).
Now compare the lunch programs of the two countries that are ranked the highest on the World Health Organization’s list of health care systems- Italy and France, and a major difference exists. The national lunch programs of these countries provide their students with organic, locally farmed lunches and offer both vegan and vegetarian options.
Why the disparity? Are these countries more well to do? Does America not comprehend the nexus between eating healthy and being healthy? Actually, quite the contrary, America comprehends that big business and their elected officials in the Senate and House profit from our constant state of illness or Ill-being. There is no such correlation in profits for those who are living vibrantly healthy lives.
What should really gall you is that these same officials are living a politicowood styled privileged life. Their children attend private schools that offer organic well-rounded lunches. They feel secure enough in their privilege (one granted by we the people) to play with our childrens’ health and ultimately lives, like evil puppet masters, making detached, cold, calculating decisions that are propelled by their own pecuniary gain. Thank GOD for KARMA!!
